4K IPTV: what you actually need
4K looks great when the whole chain supports it: the source, your internet, your device and your TV. Here is the honest checklist.
The 4K chain
- Source: not every channel broadcasts in 4K. Selected channels and VOD titles do; the rest are Full HD.
- Internet: about 25 Mbps per 4K stream. Count every screen in use at once.
- Device: use a 4K-capable stick or box. See our Fire TV and NVIDIA Shield guides.
- TV: HDMI 2.0 or newer, with the HDMI port set to enhanced / deep color mode where your TV needs it.
- Network: Ethernet, or 5 GHz Wi-Fi with a clear line to the router.
Settings that help
- Set the stick to 4K output, 60 Hz where available, and match frame rate for sports and movies.
- Turn motion smoothing off for movies and on a low setting for sports.
- Use the TV's Game or Sports picture mode to reduce processing delay.
